REVIEW: Dying to Survive by Scott Hildreth

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆

Synopsis

*CAUTION* This book has scenes describing the abduction, rape, murder, and torture of living people. Additionally, there are graphic scenes of sex, not all of which is consensual. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

You’re abducted and placed into a room with three other women, all of which resemble you. Confused, scared, lonely, and in constant fear, you wait. The abductor, after a few days, opens the door and explains the following:

“Tomorrow morning, at eight am, one of you will forfeit your life to save the other three. If one person isn’t willing to die, everyone will die.”

What would you do?

“Dying to Survive” is a erotic psychological trip through the minds of seven people - parents, children, uncles, and nieces as this story unfolds. They range from abused, abducted, raped, murdered, and killed to enforce the law, to almost what we would perceive as normal.

Prepare for a trip that will leave you guessing, wondering, and contemplating how you live your life.

Review

I had been hearing, for a few weeks, about a new, dark, erotic book by Author Scott Hildreth. The morning after it was released, I was gifted a copy.

What can I tell you about the book, other than what's already in the synopsis? Ryan Capshaw kidnaps 4 women, who all look very similar, and places them in a room together. They are told that the following morning, one of them will die and they need to decide who it is. If they don't decide, they ALL die. There is more than meets the eye with each woman. Each was specifically chosen to serve a specific purpose in Ryan's sick plan.

To say this book is a psychological mind f**k, would be a complete understatement. You need to go in with an open mind, but be prepared to take a trip into a dark, twisty place. This isn't a book for the faint of heart, but I promise it will get you thinking. There is one character who I empathized with one moment, then the next I'm plotting her death! WTH?!?! It's just insane. I actually had to take a break half way through. It wasn't because the book didn't hold my attention, but the exact opposite. It was just too much all at once and I needed to put the book down to stop my brain from running in a million different directions.

Don't try to figure out how it will end. Scott takes you on a ride on the crazy train and drops you off in the middle of 'WTF Just Happened'. Not unlike a lot of us, the characters in this book are just dying to survive at the crazy game called life. Definitely pick up this book. I promise that Scott Hildreth doesn't disappoint.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

◆◇◇◆◇◇◆◇◇◆◇◇◆
Author Bio
I'm an Ineffable Dom. That just means, do yourself a favor and please don't try to describe me or fit me into your categories. Complicated Dom, Intricate Dom, Confounding Dom work too. I love very much the soft side of a woman. Not just her body, but everything on the inside-- her passion, her intelligence, her convictions, her delicate tenderness. But the one fetish that might be a part of what makes me an Ineffable Dom is that I love her strengths. I love a woman that isn’t afraid to look me in the eyes and say ‘make me’. But I need it to be real, not staged, not pretended. She has to be a fighter at her core the way I’m a Dom at my core. I want an equal that is willing to come hard against me in every sense of the word, exhaust me. I want her so deep inside me that we’re lost in each other. I want her to never doubt that I will always use my power to adore her, protect her, liberate her. I don’t want a woman I can break, or overpower, or exercise my dominance over, I want a woman I can come undone with. I want a woman I can jump off the cliff with into that abyss of holy hell, this is beyond me, beyond my control. The greatest fear of most people is losing themselves or unravelling their roots. My greatest fear is not finding a woman I can take that plunge with. Yes, it’s a huge risk. That’s the yin and the yang of it. And while the risk titillates my Dom, it’s the ineffable fruit of that risk that moves him. He knows he has to have it. He knows he’s supposed to have. And he’s prepared to dominate for it. I think there are many men like myself, and I hope my writing will be a map for them. A map for women as well, to let them know Doms like this exist. I’d like to call them out of the woodwork. Help men join with their natural inner Doms in a way that I think is one of the most fulfilling experiences there are. I want to challenge them all to go for the complete power exchange with a woman, but don’t be a coward and not give the same that they demand or expect. And consider that when you give one hundred percent of yourself to a person, there is no more of you to give away. You now belong to them the way they belong to you. Inner Doms are dogs that need a master to train them. I once bowed to my Dom's reckless and tireless desires, but when I gained control, he bowed to my will. The transformation made me into what I am today. What many would call an Ineffable Dom. But its equal term in the Vanilla world, in my opinion, is a real man.

Blog Tour: Locked by Ella Col

Locked Blog Tour Synopsis
“If you leave someone at least tell them why, because what's more painful than being abandoned; is knowing you're not worth an explanation.” ~Unknown~
~Caydon~ My dad never wanted me. The little girl at the bus station abandoned me. I’m just a poor, tattoo artist from the wrong side of the tracks. But, Hannah…she wants me. She made me see the light. I don’t need to fight to make people see that I’m worth it. When I’m with her, everyone can see that I am someone. I’m worth something. If only Hannah would return my calls. I know she is busy at college. But, damn, I deserve a phone call. Hell, I’d even accept a text message. Nothing. I get nothing. Without her, I will be nothing. ~Reece~ My mother is an alcoholic. I can’t believe I’ve said that out loud. It’s gotten really bad. Every night is a nightmare. My mother will drink from the time she gets home from work until she passes out. She ended up getting fired from her job because she showed up drunk. Her body is failing so I decided to drop out of school to help her. It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s not like I could study in peace. I feel trapped…hopeless. I know I love her. But, there are days, I am not sure. The end is near. I know it is.

REVIEW::

***I received an ARC for an honest review***

This is such a sweet story! The book begins when the kids are 10 years old. Caydon notices a little girl across the street, she is beautiful and shy. He watches the other girls tease her. He goes over and helps her up they lock eyes. There is a connection and all he wants to do is save her. They agree to meet up at the park but he never sees her again!

Reese had to deal with a lot in her life especially taking take of her alcoholic mother at such a young age. Finally after all those years she is finally coming home.

Caydon hasn't had a easy life either, he never stopped missing the beautiful 10 year old girl.

I fell in love with this story from the very beginning. Its a quick read but you will have many emotions, there will be lies, fighting, deceiving, love, fate and second chances. This was a great read and I highly recommend it.

I give 5 out of 5 stars

Interview with Stuart Reardon

Hi, Stu. First let me say, I am beyond thrilled that you agreed to be the face of my character, Colt Harris for the cover of Finding Home. As I've told you, I saw a picture of you a couple of years ago and the whole character of Colt sprang to life from that, which is something that I've never done before. I've always had the character in my head and then searched for someone who fit. I am beyond thrilled that the very man who inspired the character has agreed to represent him on my cover. So, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for that. Thank you. I'm very flattered I was always the character in your book. And thank you for choosing me for the cover, I really hope the book does great for you :) x I know that you are first and foremost a rugby player and athlete. What made you decide to go into modeling? I sort of just fell into modeling. I think being in sports and in good shape fits really well with modeling, and fitness modeling in particular. Being in professional sports already had me in great shape, so stepping into fitness modeling was an easy transition. What's the most unusual pose you've been asked to do? No really unusual poses to date that stick out in my mind. Some of the action shots are tough as it takes time to capture the right shot, so may have to do the same thing over and over again. Another question I know everyone is always asking: is there any particular meaning behind your awesome tattoo? Do the symbols represent something, or was it just a design you said, Hey, that looks cool, I want that? I got my tattoo when I was recovering from a really tough Achilles tendon injury. I had a couple of operations to finally get it right, so it was during that time that I worked out the design with the tattooist and he did the magic. I have always been interested in Tribal designs and culture, so the tattoo reflects that, and it reminds me of that really tough 14 month period in my life: the really low points which made me strong and determined, and a high point when I finally got back fit to play super league again after 14 months of recovery and rehab. I've heard tattoos are addictive. Will you get more or are you done? Yes, tattoos are very addictive, I think I may get some more in the future but I've not decided yet. I know you come to the States for modeling jobs, where all have you been? Yes, I've been to a couple of places in the States, NYC, Miami and LA. Where have you not gone but would like to? I would love to visit Vegas. America is a huge country so I'm sure there are loads of beautiful places to visit. For me, because I'm a Native Texan, I have to ask: have you been to Texas? I have not but I would love to visit Texas :) How does it feel to be a muse for a character in a book? I'm very flattered to be your muse for Finding Home. It's a pleasure to be liked :) When I was looking through pictures of you on the Internet, I came across one where you were holding a guitar. I grew up a Band Geek and love music of all kinds and try to incorporate it in my books when I can. That picture inspired a whole scene in the book, where Colt is stressed about something and picks up his guitar and is idly playing while talking to his girlfriend, Sarah. Do you play? Yes, I play the guitar, not really well, though, I'm still learning. I'm a beginner so it's a working process. Later in the scene, he sings to her. Do you sing? I try to sing but I'm not the best at that either. I need to practice more {Ann: I'm sure all the ladies are feeling what I am right now: *swoon*!!! Stu singing! *sigh* ;)} OK, now let's get personal. Are you ready for this? I'll make it as painless as possible. Lightning round: Are you right or left-handed? Right What's your favorite food? Steak or chicken Favorite drink (non-alcoholic) Sparkling water Favorite drink (alcoholic) Corona Favorite car? Land Rover Sport Motorcycles? Harley Davidson Favorite color? Black Favorite movie? Anchorman Favorite TV show? Walking Dead/Game of Thrones Favorite actor? Gerard Butler Favorite actress? Eva Mendes Favorite type of music: rock, pop, techno, metal, country, rap, hip hop? A bit of everything Favorite song? Kings of Leon - Use Somebody Favorite band/group? Kings of Leon Favorite singer? Ed Sheering Snow in the mountains/sun on the beach? Sun on the beach everyday Cats/dogs/neither? Neither; I don't have time for pets Nike/UnderArmor/Other? Nike Favorite sport OTHER than rugby? Boxing Favorite team? North Wales Crusaders - My Team, ha Favorite American sport? (if any) American football Favorite American team? (if any) NY Jets Boxing or MMA? Boxing, but I like both, as both are really tough sports Watching TV, snuggle together or give you your space? Watching TV or movies: cuddles with Em Walking with your girlfriend, hold her hand, your hand on her back, arm around her shoulders or waist, or don't touch at all? Holding hands or no touch at all Would your girlfriend say you are a Pushover or Alpha male? It's 50/50 I guess. We have give and take or it wouldn't work. I'm an Alpha male but a pushover if she's upset Boxers/briefs/commando? (lol, kidding! You don't have to answer that!) All 3, it depends on the situation :) Thank you so much for taking time to indulge the silly writer! And thank you, again, for what I'm sure by now is the millionth time I've said it, but thank you for being so great with all this and for sharing your time and your picture with me and my readers! You're welcome anytime :) x

Synopsis

Shane Dekkar is an undefeated, gorgeous, and somewhat shy boxer from Compton California. In the ring, he's a beast, out of the ring, he's loving, caring, and intriguing. After the death of his grandfather, he moves to Austin and meets Kace by happenstance as she and her boyfriend are in an argument in public. He is drawn to her, and she to him. Her boyfriend drives away as she mouths the words "help me" through the window...

When they meet again two years later, Shane begins to believe in fate. But, as he prepares for a potential shot at a championship fight, he believes there's no time in his life or career or a woman.

Kace Meadows lives in Austin, Texas. Now 26, she has been in an abusive relationship since she was sixteen years old. As terrible as it is, she can’t seem to find a way to allow herself to end it. With her current boyfriend, she can’t seem to win. She finds hope in reading about her book boyfriends....and dreaming.

Until she meets Shane Dekkar, a boxer. Holy mother of perfection...

Shane fights his inner demons by using his fists. On the street or in the ring, Shane does what he does best, he wins at any cost. Unlike Kace, Shane can’t seem to lose.

Undefeated is an extremely romantic erotica novel about fighting. Fighting for what you believe in. Fighting for life. Fighting to live. And fighting to keep love once you find it.

Be prepared to be moved, touched, stand up and cheer, and cry your eyes out. This book will, without a doubt, knock you unconscious. This novel clearly defines the love that we all seem to want, yet can't find. This is not your typical boxing/fighter romance. This book will give you hope, make you feel, and cause you to wonder....wonder why you haven't met your Shane Dekkar.

◇◆◇◇◆◇◇◆◇◇◆◇◇◆◇

Author Scott Hildreth's Inspiration for Writing Undefeated

My inspiration to write Undefeated, and the hope that it may inspire someone to get out of an abusive relationship, came from the events described below. The events below are true. The events in the book are not. The book is one hundred percent fiction.

One weekend, I had a girl get in touch with me that I had never met. She had received my telephone number from a friend of a friend. Frantic, she attempted to speak to me initially, but each time she tried, she was overcome with emotion.

This emotion filled silence continued for almost an hour, and then we then actually began to communicate, albeit slowly, and one-sided. I learned through the conversation (that lasted almost eight hours) that she was bound by her husband, and gang raped by his friends. This happened for a few days. Against, if I even need to state this, her will. She was in and out of consciousness for two days. Eventually, she was released. In shock and extremely poor health, she contacted me from a remote hotel room.

I struggled with this event, and how to handle it. I struggled with this more than I have struggled with almost anything in my life. Vengeance. At what point does one administer justice to someone that the courts will undoubtedly not punish properly? The punishment for this particular crime, regardless of what was imposed by the court, would not be sufficient for the crime committed.

I chose at the time to speak to another close female friend about the event, and get her opinion.

Although I could not speak to my friend about the person, the events, or the intimacies of the above mentioned conversation, we spoke for some time in general about God, about law and about the difference between what is right and what is wrong. I shared with her my thoughts of feeling a need to resolve this issue with the caller’s husband on my own. When the smoke cleared, I sat in a coffee shop and thought. I made a decision. “Put up again thy sword into his place; for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” I decided, for once in my life, that it was not my responsibility to resolve this issue. I contacted the authorities, called in a few favors from some friends in law enforcement, and the issue was dealt with in a manner in accordance with law.

My female friend, as always, proved extremely useful in her ability to convey her understanding of the message of God in a manner that I could listen to and accept. I have always struggled with attempting to do what is right (in my mind), and hoped that it was what was right in God’s eyes. I do not know that these things always were in line with one another.

Until now.

And now, a year later, the person from the incident above?

She is well. As well as she can be, considering all things. She is fortunate.

I struggle - still today - with thoughts of vengeance.

My struggle brought me to this.

I hope you enjoy.

REVIEW

We were given the ARC of this book for an honest review.

In Undefeated, you have Shane Dekkar. He is an undefeated boxer who is a beast in the ring, but a caring, somewhat shy guy outside the ring. Then you have Kace Meadows. She is in a long standing relationship with someone who abuses her both mentally and physically. One day, they cross paths by fate and the 'Undefeated' Shane Dekkar, doesn't know what hit him.

To say I felt horrible for Kace, would be the understatement of the year. She is in a 10 year long relationship with a guy who controls every aspect of her life. He finds, it's his job to 'keep her in line' by either physically harming her or mentally abusing her. The thing is, she is so broken that she truly believes that she deserves her punishments. Then one night, while on the receiving end of a 'punishment' in a public place, Shane steps in. Over time, Kace realizes that she deserves better and finally sticks up for herself.

Shane... Shane... Shane. He is 'the one' you want on your side. He's a boxer, strong, HOT, caring and just an all around great guy. If you were to look up your perfect 'book boyfriend', his picture would be there staring back at you. He helps Kace get back on her feet after finally standing up for herself.

Although him and Kace have a strong connection, he is always the gentleman and always thinking of her first. Ok, yes there is sex in this book and YES it doesn't start happening until about 60% in. I personally loved the anticipation of it. Shane waited until Kace was mentally ready. There's one particular part of the book that starts with Kace trying on dresses and ends with super steamy-ness.

Definitely, pick this book up. Scott's writing style allows you to really experience everything the characters are feeling.

I gave this book 4.25 stars. ~ reviewed by Lisa S.

About the Author

sh Readers, I will never forget the first time I actually felt as if I had helped someone resolve an issue in their life. I was in middle school. It started then, and has continued throughout my entire life. I have always made myself available to talk to people and resolve (or attempt to resolve) issues that they struggle with. Having an exceptional ability to communicate has always been a gift of mine, and I have enjoyed doing so. Telling stories has always been second nature to me. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I have written poetry, romance, self-help, addiction, alcoholism, codependency, technical, and satire. There isn't a genre or a topic that I feel more comfortable with. I enjoy writing about whatever it is that I feel passionate about at the time. Being open-minded and often seeing abusive relationships unfold, I have always been passionate about abuse, or the prevention of it. My main focus has always been people that are incapable of helping themselves, primarily women, children, and the elderly. I have talked to hundreds of women that were in abusive relationships, and assisted many of them in removing themselves from these relationships. I try to focus in my writings to develop a story that makes people stop and think. To look at a subject or subjects from a different point of view. If I am able to get my point across, and make the subject entertaining to the reader, I feel that I have met my objective. I feel that I have tremendous depth as a person, and have had some great experiences in my life. To date, what life has offered me has been nothing short of spectacular. My opinions, point of views, and perspectives on matters are just that; an opinion. There isn't necessarily a right or wrong in what I write, but more of a belief. I always believe in what I am writing, and I further believe that the reader may benefit from viewing it from the written perspective. I hope that you enjoy reading what I have written as much as I enjoy writing it. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than knowing a reader enjoyed something I have written. Considering that, please take time to leave a book review if you have read something I have written.

Best Regards,

Scott Hildreth
